Emil Ekelund, Swedish Eco

Eco Lovers: Part 2 Emil Ekelund

Eco Lovers is a series of people that in one way or another have a passion for the nature and the world that we are living in. For us as a brand we are happy to partner with these people and share their story for a better world.

Let us present the Swedish pro-snowboarder Emil Ekelund

Emil is a snowboard- and surf loving person who, in his own words, lives with his cat called Katten who likes eating popcorn. “Katten” in swedish means “The cat”. 😸❤️🍿

Sometimes, Emil works as a carpenter, or a snowboard instructor. Other times, Emil is busy winning Freeride World Qualifier competition!

Whats your favorite mountain to ride on?

-Well I can’t choose one, but Norway in general it’s amazing.

How important is it for you to be able to choose organic and why do want to choose that?

-For me it’s an obvious choice to choose organic if there is an alternative for it. If you have the opportunity the least you can do as a consumer is to demand the producers to work for a more sustainable production. Eco products is big step towards a more health earth.

Why do you choose to represent Swedish Eco?

-I think it’s important to support small upcoming brands from Sweden that dare to challenge the status quo with conscious products.

Julia Van Rooij and Swedish Eco

Eco Lovers: Part 1 – Julia Van Rooij

Eco Lovers is a series of people that in one way or another have a passion for the nature and the world that we are living in. For us as a brand we are happy to partner with these people and share their story for a better world.

First out is the Dutch surfer and life lover Julia Van Rooij

Julia, describe yourself with three words:

– Big Chocolate Addict haha

Among your friends, what are you best known for?

– Always keeping the “WHEHOOOOO”- spirit alive

Why Swedish Eco?

– Because there is nothing better then putting on a pair of Organic-Cotton-Swedish-Made undies to start your day with! I’m glad to have the opportunity to collaborate with a brand like Swedish Eco. They make me able to share the greener side of the business clothing world, and inspire others to support these visions.

What’s your favorite app on your phone?

– My camera for sure! I love to capture good moments 🙂

What makes your heart sing?

– Good waves at first light and no one out! And animals!

Name a song that will always make you wanna dance?

– Hahaha no matter the song; when I hear reggaeton I just want to dance anywhere! But to be more specific, these days I love to listen to Me Niego – Reik, Ozuna & Wisin. Especially now when it’s freezing outside in Holland, it brings some sunshine and warmth into my day!

By the way

Julia is working with an awesome project where she want to remove all the plastic garbage from The Hague and make a giant plastic wave out of it. Make sure to vote for her project following this link:  www.puike-plannen.nl (both in Dutch and English). You can vote until 3rd of Feb.

Swedish Eco says no to Black Friday

Swedish Eco says no to Black Friday

Black Friday – The start of the Christmas Shopping Season. It was started in an era where we didn’t know any better, when we believed that consumerism makes us happy.

Today 60 years later we know better. Now we have come realize that we don’t need all the stuff that we have. Swedish Eco say no to Black Friday, because we don’t want to encourage consumption just because it’s cheap. We want you to consume when you really need and want our products.

GOTS + SWEDISH ECO + organic underwear

Organic underwear + GOTS

What does organic clothes actually mean? What is GOTS that I see everywhere I read about sustainable fashion? How do I know something is actually organic?

We realize that it can be a lot of questions when thinking about either sustainable fashion and most of all organic clothes. So in this post we will explain the certification of GOTS for you all.

For us the definition of organic is something that being produced and grown without GMO, pesticides and fertilizers. How can we as a company control this? Well this is where GOTS come in. GOTS stands for Global Organic Textile Standard. GOTS is:

“The worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibres, including ecological and social criteria, backed up by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain.”

Of course we can not be 100%, but we try to keep a really close dialogue with all our suppliers so we can be sure everything is as good as it’s promise. Soon we also planning a trip down to the factory in China which are really excited for 🙂

Any questions? Please hit us up and we happily answer them.

Swedish Eco supports we forest

Swedish Eco is a proud partner to WeForest

We want to contribute!
Everyday when we are working with our products we are thinking about how we can use them to create a conversation about the fashion industry and how it looks like today. We are thinking in terms of production, the raw material – in our case the cotton and the use of it. This is one part of how we want to contribute, the other one is about giving back.

Very early on we teamed up with We Forest, a global organisation that plant trees around the world. So for every product of Swedish Eco you buy you actually help us plant more trees.

Okay, great, but tell me what it is actually good for? (Copied directly from We Forest’s webpage)

  • Forests balance the Earth’s water-cycle essential for cooling our climate.
  • In addition, forests play another vital role in stabilising the climate by sucking carbon dioxide (CO2) out of the atmosphere and fixing it into soils and biomass.
  • 50% of a tree’s biomass is carbon which remains stored, acting as a ‘carbon sink’, unless the tree decays or is burned.
  • Global forests are estimated to hold more CO2 than the atmosphere.

If you are curious to knowing more, please click in to their site and read more about tree planting and why it’s good for the environment.
